My Name is Gary Bate I started as an apprentice paperhanger in 1983 working for a company that specialized in residential and Model homes, after one year I started my own company :
“Wallpaper by Gary”.
In 2002, I changed the name of the company to “Ultimate Wallcovering”
While we offer many services the main focus of my business is custom residential. Over the years we have built up a long list of loyal clients by providing top craftsmanship, reasonable prices and excellent service.
I have lived in southern Orange County since 1969. I attended Laguna Beach High School and Orange Coast College. I took course’s in architectural drafting, construction and art.
My son Tyler Bate has been working with me and learning the art of paperhanging for the last 16 years and has become an excellent wallcovering installer.
Tyler will soon be assuming more of the duties as I approach retirement. After 40 years it’s time to pass the reigns and I couldn’t be more pleased with Tyler’s ability, craftsmanship and attention to detail. After all Ultimate Wallcovering is a family business !

At Ultimate Wallcovering we have a passion for doing the highest quality work with attention to detail. Not all wallpapers are created equal, that is to say there are many types of wallpapers constructed in many different methods and printing types.
We strive to do the best possible application for each type of wallcovering. So no matter whether your chosen wallpaper is traditional, peel and stick or a specialty wallpaper such as grasscloth, textile or hand screen printed and untrimmed be assured we will go over in detail with you as to the intricacies and expected results of the wallpaper you have chosen.
We use only the finest quality of materials and tools for installing and preparing your walls. We use only the most expensive adhesives and primers and have all the best equipment available.
We work in neat and efficient manner so your home and routine will not be disrupted.
We adhere to the manufacturer’s instructions on installation and wall preparation for the wallpaper you have chosen.
We believe in communicating with you on all aspects of the work involved.
The most important part of a good installation is having a properly prepared wall surface.
That may involve removing fixtures, window coverings etc, removal or stripping of old wallpaper, patching damaged walls and priming all walls with a suitable wallpaper primer.
